Holidays were always my favorite time with all the cooking, and the spices in the air, Each individual smell like heaven letting us all know that mom was cooking. Hot fresh pumpkin and apple pies honey glazed hams and roasted turkey, Sweet potatoes and hot baked potatoes green beans casserole and fresh bread. So many different foods spread out just to tease the eyes, then tastebuds, As we surround the table for giving thanks the best surprise of all floats from the kitchen. The smell of warm vanilla drifts out mixed with another mouth watering smell, Fresh melted chocolate teases the nose urging us to eat the meal before us.
Year after year has slowly passed by and things have changed so very much, Yet still I remember those family meals each and every holiday that passed. Family gathered together in harmony all differences set aside for the time, Laughing and joking at all things shared the exploits of the weeks and months gone. Of all the things from that time I remember I recall best, the smell of vanilla and chocolate, Knowing that mom was spoiling all of us and wishing I could turn back the clock. Years have passed and the holidays gone no longer shared as they once were, Yet I am always thankful for the memories and thankful for vanilla and chocolate.
