Swirling and twirling the shadows dance, Swaying and moving like flames of black.
Swelling and pulsing with each low flicker, Shading then releasing the world beneath.
Like a thing alive the shadows do move, Like a heart beating they do sway.
Each dark thought makes them grow, Stronger and stronger each day that passes.
Lost in misery my heart does seep, Knowing no light just the gathering dark.
Deeper and deeper I feel myself slip, Becoming more a shell and less a man.
Twilight has faded and become dusk, That too has deepened into the full of night.
