After reading the above article I have to say that I am beyond shocked, and very displeased with the way the US Government is handling things. Personally I have to say that the government of the US and in fact of all the countries of the world need to open their eyes and realize just exactly what they are doing. No matter our personal views on same sex marriages, and the more we push to stop them, the more likely they are to happen anyways. Not too mention the fact, that if you stop and realize just exactly where the whole idea that same sex marriage comes from, the Church, you would realize how stupid it is of the government to enforce a law founded on Church doctrine, when it is stated that Church and State are SEPARATE!
I will freely admit that I have had a huge number of friends over the years who are gay or lesbian. What they do behind closed doors is their business. They still hold jobs and pay their bills. They still pay taxes, and in some cases raise their kids normally. They do not push their views on us. Why then should the straight community try to push and enforce our views on them? On July 4th, 1776 the 13 colonies signed and issued the Declaration of Independence. We were declaring ourselves free of the rules and regulations of England and the Church bylaws. Declaring ourselves free of the "caste" system of royalty, nobility, and serfs. In this declaration they stated: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that
they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among

Under the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, the government tries to define marriage as: "In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling,
regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and
agencies of the United States, the word 'marriage' means only a legal
union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word
'spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or

With that being said, I have to stop and ask myself one very important question here. If we allow the government to set a definition on what marriage is, does that mean we are also allowing them to define who we can and can not love. Can they truly tell our hearts that we can only love someone of the opposite sex? Marriage, for the most part, is between 2 individuals in love. Love can not be harnessed and told what to do, it goes where it will.
I am normally a very quiet person about a lot of public matters, but I felt that a voice needed to speak up. I believe that we the people of the United States, regardless of our own personal views, need to band together and remind our government officials of the oaths that took when taken office. Oaths to uphold the Constitution and to not add any laws that go against the liberties and rights therein.
